Dialogue for Human Dignity
Franciscan Family in Singapore promotes human dignity
The Franciscan Family of Singapore invited Franciscans International (FI) to participate in ‘Dialogue: Human Dignity – Process of Peace’ to mark the 25th anniversary of the Spririt of Assisi. The four-day event began with a panel of local NGO experts talking about alleged human trafficking issues in Singapore.
Sanjay Gathia, FI Regional Director of Asia Pacific (Interim) followed with two seminars on FI’s work at the United Nations and using the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) to encourage dialogue between concerned citizens and governments to improve human dignity.
The 50+ participants including Franciscans, NGOs, and church leaders, were pleased to hear that in response to the UPR report for Singapore, the Government is making certain changes at the national level which will positively impact standards at the grassroots level. Sanjay encouraged them to use this as an opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue.
